Amanda Knox Trial: Conviction Appeal Denied

European Court Upholds Human Rights Violations

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) - Amanda Knox's request to have her murder conviction overturned has been denied by the European Court of Human Rights. The court ruled that while there were some violations of Knox's defense rights during her original trial, these violations did not warrant the annulment of her conviction.

Slander Trial Continues

Despite the European Court's ruling, Knox is currently facing a separate slander trial in Italy. She is accused of falsely accusing her former boss of sexual assault during a police interrogation in 2007. The trial began Wednesday, and Knox has denied the charges.

Knox was convicted of murdering her British roommate, Meredith Kercher, in 2007. She served four years in prison before being acquitted in 2011. However, her acquittal was overturned in 2013, and she was sentenced to 28 years in prison. She is currently appealing that conviction.

The slander trial is expected to continue for several weeks. If convicted, Knox could face up to three years in prison.
