Wednesday tennis tips

There are four Davis Cup ties on Wednesday, the competition reaching the semi-final stage. Great Britain welcome Australia to Glasgow while Croatia host Serbia in Zadar. The other two semi-finals - Italy v USA and Germany v Canada - take place on Friday and Saturday. Here are our tips for Wednesday's action.

Cameron Norrie v Alexei Popyrin

Norrie is unbeaten in the Davis Cup this year, winning all three of his singles matches. His latest victory came against Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals as Great Britain overcame the United States 2-1. In fact, the British number one has won his last four singles matches for his country and is unbeaten in singles since defeat to Ilya Ivashka in the quarter-finals of last year's competition. Popyrin has also been in impressive form in the Davis Cup, winning both of his singles matches in straight sets so far. Norrie will be the favourite for this match but the Australian is a dangerous floater and could cause an upset.

Marin Cilic v Miomir Kecmanovic

This will be the first meeting between these two players and is likely to be a close encounter. Cilic is the more experienced player, having won 20 ATP titles and reached the final of the Australian Open in 2018. However, Kecmanovic has been in excellent form in recent months, winning the ATP 250 event in Kitzbuhel and reaching the semi-finals of the US Open. Cilic will be the favourite for this match but Kecmanovic is a rising star and could cause an upset.

Great Britain v Australia

Great Britain will be looking to reach the final of the Davis Cup for the first time since 1978. They will be favourites to overcome Australia, who have not won the competition since 2003. However, the Aussies have a strong team, led by Alex de Minaur and Thanasi Kokkinakis. Great Britain will need to be at their best to win this tie.

Croatia v Serbia

This is a repeat of the 2021 Davis Cup final, which Croatia won 2-1. Croatia will be favourites to win again, but Serbia have a strong team, led by Novak Djokovic. This is likely to be a close tie, with the outcome possibly being decided by the doubles match.
